5:01 am
and west, winter weather advisories go into effect later this morning through this evening. let's go to monika samtani. it's 5:00 a.m. you've been really busy, almost as busy as me today. >> we're even today, howard. we've got a live picture of a serious accident on the inbound side of new york avenue at florida avenue and a close- up look at what they're dealing with with a tractor-trailer and two cars involved and serious injuries as well. it's been there since just before 1:00 this morning and the investigation will continue again this morning. we'll take another picture live from the traffic land camera and show you the closure at florida avenue. you're going to need to plan early if you're one of those commuters inbound on new york avenue. i suggest that you just simplify things to the south of the accident. you wouldn't to go ahead and take bladensburg road as you head inbound on new york avenue and to the north of the accident, take montana avenue. that will take you on to rhode island avenue and around the accident and avoid hopefully the delays that are going to be
5:02 am
caused by this accident inbound new york avenue at florida. i'll keep you posted on that situation throughout the morning. we'll go to another map and this time another situation. if you're planning to head inbound on braddock road inside the beltway, that is shut down between ravensworth and backlick road with a pole down. it's going to be that way till about 7:00 this morning. use route 236 as your alternate route. inbound braddock road can exit at the beltway, by the way. i'll take you over to maryland on the beltway north of town in college park. this is final. no problems to report on the outer loop into silver spring or any of the major corridors heading for the beltway. coming up in my next report, another look at what's going on around town at 5:10. republican presidential candidate rick santorum has gotten a boost from voters in missouri, minnesota, and colorado. >> he won contests in all three states last night but didn't manage to lock up any delegates. delia goncalves is live in the satellite center with more on that and where we go forward from here. >> reporter: good morning. he didn't win any delegates.
5:03 am
that's because colorado and minnesota, those delegates will be chosen later and missouri, really you can just call that a beauty contest. no delegates were at stake in that particular state. still, rick santorum who sees this victory as a sign that he is a true conservative candidate in this election. the win certainly has put the brakes on romney's momentum as front-runner. today after eight republican contests, romney had three victories. santorum now has four states under his belt. >> your votes today were not just heard loud and wide across the state of missouri and minnesota but they were heard loud and louder all across this country. and particularly in a place that i suspect maybe in massachusetts. they were heard particularly loud tonight. there's probably another person who maybe is listening to your cheers here tonight also. and that might be at 1600 pennsylvania avenue. you better start listening to
5:04 am
the voice of the people. >> this was a good night for rick santorum. want to congratulation senator santorum, wish him the very best. we'll keep campaigning down the road but i expect to become our nominee with your help. >> reporter: let's take a closer look at the numbers. in missouri santorum won 55% of the vote. romney 25% and 12% of the vote went to ron paul. with about 95% reporting in minnesota, let's take a look at those numbers. santorum just about 45% of the vote. paul 27%. romney came in third at just about 17% and of course you can see gingrich followed that with about 10%. in colorado we have those numbers now. santorum walked away with 40% of the vote. romney 35%. you can see gingrich and paul pretty much tied 13% and 12%. three and four in that race. coming up in a half-hour, we'll have reaction from the other candidates, including gingrich and ron paul and what this win means for the republican party
